CLEARANCES

Thank you to our wonderful PJP volunteers for all you do each and every day to support our programs, activities, athletics, and field trips.  This page provides you with specific information concerning what is required by Archdiocese of Philadelphia as well as PA Law when working with children in schools.

Volunteers who reside in Pennsylvania do not have a provisional period and must obtain clearances prior to beginning service. The Archdiocesan policy requires that ALL volunteers who may have any possible contact with children complete the following background checks and clearances...

  • Clearances for Volunteers Living in PA for Less than 10 years:

    • Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance

    • Pennsylvania State Police Clearance

    • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance

  • Clearances for Volunteers Living in PA Continuously for 10 years:

If you do not find an answer you are looking for or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to The Office for Child and Youth Protection at OCYP@archphila.org or 215.587.2466

Pennsylvania State legislature has made sweeping changes in the law and how it affects the safe environment program. The Archdiocese has adopted those changes.Every PJPII volunteer who may have any possible contact with or responsibility for children must comply with these laws. There are no exceptions, nor is there a  provisional status. All clearances and training must be completed prior to working with children.

Volunteers continue to be a very important part of PJPII and help make our school stand above the rest. We appreciate everything our volunteers do and keep you in our prayers.

Volunteers who have regular contact with children (at least one time per week) are required to complete parts one and two of the Safe Environment training within 90 days of beginning their volunteer work.

  • Part I: Protecting God's Children, is offered regularly at sites throughout the Archdiocese. The training provides basic facts about child sexual abuse and adults’ roles in prevention.

    • All new coaches of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia – paid and volunteers – must complete Safe Environment Training. Within 90 days of hire, attendance is expected in the classroom component (Protecting God’s Children). The online component (Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse) is required for those hired after December, 2011.

  • Part II: The Mandatory Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse, is available online at our Training Institute in English and Spanish. This training provides an overview of Archdiocesan reporting procedures for suspected child abuse and Pennsylvania Child Welfare Laws. The training should take you approximately one hour to complete  Please note that if you began service before December, 2011 but did not attend the Mandated Reporter training, you are out of compliance and must complete the online training.
